After independence, before the rise of BJP, this seat used to be ruled by Congress. In 1977, Congress had to taste defeat on this seat for the first time. Janata Party’s Shrikaran Sharda defeated Congress for the first time on this seat. BJP won this seat for the first time in 1991. Rasa Singh Rawat was elected MP from here for two consecutive terms. BJP’s performance in the last two Lok Sabha elections has also been excellent. Riding on the Modi wave, BJP won here in 2014 and 2019. Although the Congress candidate had won the 2018 by-election, Raghu Sharma immediately resigned from the membership of the Lok Sabha.
History of Ajmer
Ajmer is a historical place. This city was established by Ajayraj Singh, a Chauhan king, in the seventh century. Initially its name was Ajaymeru. Mughals also ruled here. Ajmer is also famous for the Dargah of Moinuddin Chishti. According to the 2011 survey, the total population here is 26,36,370. The literacy rate here is 59.83 percent.
