Lok Sabha Election 2024: BJP is engaged with the hope of winning all the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand once again. BJP had won all the parliamentary constituencies in the state in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. Two Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand – Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar and Almora are located in the Kumaon region and the remaining three seats – Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal and Garhwal (Pauri) fall in the Garhwal region. Union Minister of State for Tourism and Defense Ajay Bhatt had won the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar seat in 2019 by defeating former Chief Minister Harish Rawat by 3,39,096 votes. His victory margin was the highest among the four other winning BJP candidates.

The second seat in the Kumaon region is Almora, which is the only reserved (SC) seat in the hill state. BJP’s Ajay Tamta has been winning from here since 2014. In the year 2019, he defeated Pradeep Tamta of Congress by 2,32,986 votes. In Garhwal (Pauri), former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat had defeated Manish Khanduri, son of BJP veteran Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and who contested for the first time on a Congress ticket, by 3,02,669 votes in 2019. Before Pushkar Singh Dhami was appointed the Chief Minister of the state in the year 2021, Tirath Singh Rawat was also the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for four months.

Rajya Lakshmi Shah, the garland of Tehri royal family, had won from Tehri Garhwal parliamentary constituency for the third consecutive time in 2019 by defeating Congress’s Pritam Singh by 3,00,586 votes, while former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank defeated Congress’s Ambrish Kumar in the Haridwar parliamentary constituency. Was defeated by 2,58,729 votes. This was Pokhriyal’s second consecutive election victory from this seat in the year 2019. In 2014, he defeated Harish Rawat’s wife Renuka on this seat by 1,77,822 votes.

All five Lok Sabha seats are with BJP

All five Lok Sabha seats in the state are with BJP. BJP has fielded its sitting MPs on three seats, while the names of candidates have not been announced yet for two other seats. Of the three seats for which BJP has announced candidates, two seats are in Kumaon region and one seat is in Garhwal. Ajay Bhatt has been fielded again from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar, Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah from Tehri Garhwal and Tamta from Almora. The two seats from which the party has not yet announced its candidates are Haridwar, which is currently represented by Nishank in the Lok Sabha, while the Garhwal (Pauri) seat was won by former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat in 2019. .
