Ramayan produced by Ramanand Sagar is going to knock on Shemaroo TV from July 3. Sunil Lahiri, who plays the role of Laxman in this show, terming Ramayana’s going on air as very special, says that in the present era, after the release of Adipurush, the telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana has become very important. Everyone should see once again and understand how Ramayana should be. Interview with Urmila Kori.
Ramayan is soon going to knock on Shemaroo TV, kya feeling hai?
It is always a very proud moment for me that people will again associate with that show and like our work.
How important was the success of Ramayana during the lockdown?
were very special. It was often heard that Ramayana was a hit when there was no option to entertain the audience, but the success of Ramayana during the lockdown proved a lot. At that time there was a lot of content on OTT platforms, but people liked Ramayana again. Especially the current generation too.
In the present era, how much has the fame of Ramayana changed in the offers of work?
I have always been getting some or the other offers, but I can’t do anything. Only after playing the role of Laxman in Ramayana, I had decided that I will do it only if I get something good on screen. Recently I have signed a film, but at the moment I cannot talk much on it.
Have you seen Adipurush?
I do not like to talk on things I have not seen or heard. I have seen Adipurush, that’s why I am saying that people need to see Ramayan produced by Ramanand Sagar.
Should the makers stop making projects on Ramayana now?
I do not believe so. Should be made, but taking care of our faith. You cannot wear jeans t-shirt to Hanuman ji. How can you ignore saffron color. You have to keep all the things in mind. Ramayana is not a comic book, which will present its characters as you like.
There was a lot of controversy over the kiss Om Raut had done to Kriti Sanon.
I had given my response to that that I did not see any harm in it. That behavior was not for mother Sita, but for the partner working together.
Off screen how has been your dealings with Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhaliya?
I have always respected him off camera like brother and sister-in-law. Couldn’t meet much with Deepika ji after the show got over, but daily meeting with Arun Govil ji continues. We also started a production company together, many times I do not agree with his words, but I cannot cut his words like this. I put my point very politely so that they understand. I respect him like an elder brother.
Having played the role of Laxman in Ramayana, along with fame came a moral responsibility on your shoulders. Did it ever feel pressured?
I never felt any pressure, because in my personal life I stay away from cigarette, alcohol and other bad things, so I didn’t have to work hard to present myself in a different way in my personal life.
