The voice of great singer and Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar has made her mark in the hearts of millions of people. Over the course of his career spanning decades, his evergreen tunes became part of the basic foundation of Indian cinema. Even today the audience likes to listen to popular songs like “Lag Ja Gale,” “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon,” and “Tere Bina Zindagi Se.” Lata Mangeshkar, born in Indore in 1929, died on 6 February 2022. According to Guinness World Records, he lent his voice to more than 30,000 songs in different languages between 1948 and 1987. 1. Lata Mangeshkar was born in a family of artists
Very few people would know that Lata Mangeshkar belonged to a family of artists. Her father ran a theater company and Lata was very fond of music. When the sisters (Lata and Asha Bhosle) started singing, their aim was to carry forward their father’s legacy. He started singing at the age of 5.
2. Lata Mangeshkar’s first song was removed from the film
Lata recorded the first song of her career “Naachu Ya Gaade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhari” in 1942 for a Marathi film titled Kiti Hasal, but unfortunately, the song was removed from the final cut of the film.
3. Lata Mangeshkar once fainted while recording a song
Lata once fainted while recording a song with musician Naushad. He revealed this in an interview with Firstpost and said, “We were recording a song on a long summer afternoon. You know what the condition of Mumbai is like in summer. In those days, there was no air conditioning in the recording studios and even the ceiling fan was switched off during the final recording. That’s it, I fainted.”

4. Lata Didi never listened to her songs
Whose songs the whole world was crazy about. She herself never likes to listen to her songs. Lata Mangeshkar, while talking to Bollywood Hungama, once said that she does not listen to her songs, because if she did, hundreds of flaws would be seen in her singing.
5. Lata’s fame extends far beyond Indian borders
Lata was not just a great personality of Indian singing. Fans of his melodious voice can be found all over the world. She has the honor of being the first Indian to perform at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. The French government awarded him the ‘Officer of the Legion of Honour’ in 2007, the country’s highest civilian award.
6. Lata Mangeshkar once held a Guinness World Record
Lata Mangeshkar was listed as the artist with the most records in the 1974 edition of the Guinness Book of Records, but this claim was disputed by Mohammed Rafi. Lata’s name was mentioned in the book but Rafi’s claim was also mentioned. This entry was removed from 1991 to 2011, in which Guinness placed Lata’s sister as the most recorded artist. Presently, Pulapaka Sushila holds this honour.
7. Lata never worked with OP Nayyar in her career
In her long career, Lata worked with the greatest Indian composers and music directors, but she never worked with OP Nayyar.
8. Lata Mangeshkar last recorded a song in 2019
Lata Mangeshkar recorded her last song ‘Saugand Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki’ as a tribute to the Indian Army and the nation, which was composed by Mayuresh Pai. It was released on 30 March 2019.
9. Lata Mangeshkar became popular with the song Wah Aayega Aanewala
In 1949, Lata Mangeshkar’s song ‘Aayega Aanewala’ in the film Mahal gave her the much-needed stardom. However, when Lata Mangeshkar entered the film industry, she was rejected as a playback singer because her voice was considered too thin at that time.

10. His patriotic song brought tears to the eyes of Prime Minister Nehru
Lata Mangeshkar dedicated ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’ to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 1962 war. On 27 January 1963, his patriotic song at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi brought tears to the eyes of Prime Minister Nehru.
