Land scam: IAS Chhavi Ranjan will appear in ED’s special court today, ED has asked for 10 days remand

Ranchi: Chhavi Ranjan, a 2011 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, was sent to jail in judicial custody on Friday in connection with the purchase and sale of land by forging documents while DC. ED urged the court that detailed questioning of Chhavi Ranjan is necessary on many important points. In the preliminary inquiry, Chhavi Ranjan has not fully cooperated in the investigation. That’s why 10 days remand should be given. The ED told the court that Rs one crore was given to Chhavi Ranjan for mutation of the land of Bargain Mauza. The conspiracy to buy and sell land by forging documents was hatched in the office of the then Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan. Prem Prakash and Kolkata businessman Amit Agarwal were involved in this. Businessman Vishnu Agarwal had borne the expenses of Chhavi Ranjan’s trip to Goa. Revenue officers, bureaucrats and politicians are involved in the purchase and sale of land by forgery.

On Friday at around 3:00 pm, the ED presented Chhavi Ranjan in the court of Special Judge Dinesh Rai of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Ranchi. During this, the ED urged the court that detailed questioning of Chhavi Ranjan is necessary on many important points. In the preliminary inquiry, Chhavi Ranjan has not fully cooperated in the investigation. That’s why 10 days remand should be given. On this, the court fixed the date of hearing on the next day, Saturday. Due to Buddha Purnima holiday on Friday, all the courts of Ranchi Civil Court were closed, but the court was open for the appearance of Chhavi Ranjan. Chhavi Ranjan is currently the director of the Social Welfare Department. Prior to this he was the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi.

Before taking him to the court, his health and Covid-19 were examined under the supervision of the doctors of Ranchi Sadar Hospital in the ED office located at Airport Road. In the investigation Chhavi Ranjan’s BP, sugar, plus etc. were found to be normal, while the Kovid-19 report came negative. ED officials made Chhavi Ranjan sit in the middle of the back seat of the car and ED officials sat on both sides to take her to jail after appearing in the court. At that time Mr. Ranjan looked emotional. Removed the spectacles, cleaned his eyes and then left for jail wearing spectacles.
