Kolkata: According to local sources, residents of huts around the multi-storey building were requested to stop the work after the construction of four floors. But local people complained that the request was not heeded. The casting work of the five-storey building was done on Sunday itself. After this it collapsed in the night.
A multi-storey building under construction collapsed at midnight. An under-construction multi-storey building collapsed in Mollabagan area of Gardenrich under ward number 134 of Kolkata Municipality on Sunday midnight. There were many huts around that multi-storey building. The multi-storey building collapsed on them. It is reported that many people have been injured due to this.
After receiving the news, senior officers of Kolkata Police reached the spot in the night itself. National Disaster Response Team also reached. Rescue work from the debris is going on. It is reported that 15 people have been rescued so far. Of these, five are undergoing treatment in the trauma care of SSKM. All are said to be seriously injured. There is a possibility of many people still being buried under the debris. Rescue operation is being conducted to find them. So far 2 deaths have been confirmed. Both the deceased are women. However, the number of dead and injured is expected to increase.
