Koderma: 10 years rigorous imprisonment to mother-in-law and father-in-law accused of murder

Koderma Bazaar: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge II Ajay Kumar Singh, while hearing the case of murder of a married woman for dowry, found the accused mother-in-law Phulwa Devi and father-in-law Mathura Paswan, resident of Madangundi Chandwara, guilty under section 304B IPC. He was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. Also, after finding them guilty under section 498A, both were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment each. Both the sentences will run concurrently. It is noteworthy that deceased Sarita Devi’s father, Shankar Paswan, resident of Sariya Giridih, had filed a case under case number 124/14 in Chandwara police station, accusing him of murdering his daughter.

In the case registered, the deceased’s husband Ranjit Paswan, mother-in-law Phulwa Devi and father-in-law Mathura Paswan were accused of murdering their daughter for not giving additional Rs 1 lakh as dowry. During the hearing in the court, public prosecutor Angelina Warla examined all the nine witnesses. While conducting the trial, the court was demanded to give harshest punishment to the accused. Advocates Deepak Gupta and Anwar Hussain presented arguments from the defense side. The court, after hearing the arguments of both the parties and observing the evidence on record, pronounced the sentence. It is notable that after the incident, the accused mother-in-law and father-in-law were absconding for nine years. The police arrested both of them on March 14, 2023, while husband Ranjit Paswan, accused of murdering his wife for dowry, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in the year 2017 itself.
