Mithilesh, Patna: Bihar has the highest number of young voters, but the number of elderly MPs is much more than that of young MPs. Even though there is a good number of young voters in the state, most of the voters here prefer experienced candidates only. This time too, a long line of old and experienced leaders is ready to contest the elections on forty Lok Sabha seats of Bihar. If we assess the last three Lok Sabha elections, the average age of the Lok Sabha members who won in 2019 was higher than that of the MPs who won in the last two general elections. Based on the age shown in the election affidavit, the average age of the current MPs of the state is 65.25 years. Whereas the average age of the MPs who won in 2014 was 54.25 years. The average age of the candidates who won the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 was 54.35 years.
Supaul MP is the oldest, Samastipur MP Prince Raj is the youngest.
Dileshar Kamat of Supaul is the oldest among the MPs who won the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. According to the election affidavit, his age in 2019 was 73 years. He will turn 78 years old in 2024. According to the 2019 affidavit, among the current MPs, there are nine who have crossed the age of 70 years. Whereas the youngest MP is Prince Raj who won the by-election from Samastipur. During the by-elections held in October 2019, he was 30 years old. Accordingly, he will be 34 years old in 2024. The second youngest MP is Kavita Singh, who won on JDU ticket from Siwan. Kavita Singh’s age in 2019 was 33 years. Now she will turn 38 years old in 2024.
MPs aged between 30 and 40
Bihar has three Lok Sabha MPs aged between 30 and 40 years. Apart from Prince Raj and Kavita Singh, the third name among these is JDU’s Valmiki Nagar MP Sunil Kumar. Sunil Kumar will be 39 years old in 2024.

According to the affidavit filed in the year 2019, there are four MPs between the age of 40 to 50. These include JDU MP from Purnia Santosh Kumar, Nawada MP Chandan Kumar, JDU MP from Bhagalpur Ajay Mandal and LJP (Ram Vilas) President and Jamui MP Chirag Paswan. Chirag Paswan’s age was 37 years in 2019. Accordingly, he will be 42 years old in the next elections.
MPs aged between 50 and 60
The number of MPs aged between 50 to 60 years is 11. These include Pradeep Singh of Araria, Sushil Singh of Aurangabad, Gopalji Thakur of Darbhanga, Katihar MP Dulalchand Goswami, Mehboob Ali Kaiser from Khagaria, Congress’s Md Javed from Kishanganj, Ashok Yadav from Madhubani, Ajay Nishad from Muzaffarpur, Dr. Sanjay from West Champaran. The names of Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai from Ujiarpur and Veena Devi of LJP from Vaishali are included.
MPs aged between 60 and 70
Similarly, there are 12 MPs between 60 and 70 years of age. These include Lalan Singh from Munger, Chhedi Paswan from Sasaram, Sunil Kumar Pintu from Sitamarhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy from Saran, Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Saheb, Ramkripal Yadav from Patliputra, Kaushalendra from Nalanda, Janardan Singh Sigriwal from Maharajganj, Mahabali Singh from Karakat, Jhanjharpur. Older MPs in the last three elections
Talking about the last three elections, the oldest MP was Ramsundar Das. In the 2009 general elections, former Chief Minister Ramsundar Das was the NDA candidate on JDU ticket from Hajipur reserved seat. He won by defeating veteran leader Ram Vilas Paswan. At that time his age was 88 years. Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Hukumdev Narayan Yadav was the oldest MP from Madhubani seat. At that time his age was 77 years.
