Kerala train fire case: UP ATS arrests accused from Bulandshahr

Noida: Shahrukh Saifi, the accused who set fire to a train going from Alappuzha to Kannur in Kerala, has been taken into custody. The accused has turned out to be a resident of Bulandshahr district. UP ATS has arrested the accused from Sayana in Bulandshahr. On Sunday night, there was an argument with the attacker regarding the seat in this train, after which the attacker attacked with the chemical brought in a plastic bottle. 3 people died and 8 were badly burnt due to fire in a fast running train. Shahrukh Saifi used to work as a car-painter in Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi. UP ATS called him on the pretext of work on 3 April and arrested him. Shah Rukh’s family members do not know how he reached Kerala. The Kerala Police has expressed the possibility of a terrorist conspiracy behind this incident. It is believed that Shahrukh’s attack was like repeating the Godhra train massacre.

The accused ran away after setting fire to the train

Let us tell you that on Sunday night in Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express, a suspect set fire to a moving train by sprinkling petrol. When the people burnt by fire stopped the train after shouting, the accused jumped and ran away in the dark of night. Kerala Police released the sketch of the accused and gave information about his Noida connection. According to the Kerala Police, the accused has been identified as Shahrukh Saif of Noida. He used to work as a laborer in Kozhikode. The police got his clue through a mobile phone recovered from the side of the railway track. This phone was last used on 30 March. After this the SIM card was removed from it. When the police searched through the IMEI of the phone, its owner turned out to be Shahrukh Saif.

Identification done on the basis of CCTV cameras installed in the train

The police had examined the CCTV cameras installed in the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express. A picture of the suspect was found in the CCTV footage at around 11.30 pm on Sunday night, after which it was released for public identification. The DGP of Kerala has constituted a special team under the leadership of ADGP MR Ajithkumar to investigate the matter. This team will investigate all aspects and take appropriate action in the matter. In this case, NIA has also started its parallel investigation. According to eyewitnesses of the incident in the train, around 9.30 on Sunday night when the train was about to cross the Korapuzha bridge between Kozhikode and Kannur. Then a middle aged man with beard wearing red shirt came from D2 compartment to D1 compartment. After this, petrol was sprinkled on the passengers lying in the compartment and set on fire. As soon as the fire broke out, the entire coach started burning in flames and there was panic among the people.
