Kawasaki launches Ninja ZX-4R in India, priced at just Rs 8.49 lakh

New Delhi : Kawasaki on Monday launched the Ninja ZX-4R in the Indian bike market at a price of just Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The high-performance fully-faired motorcycle has arrived in India as a completely built unit (CBU). That is why its price is being said to be high. This sportsbike is positioned between the Ninja 650 and Ninja 400 in the company’s Indian lineup. Kawasaki has said that deliveries of the bike will start from the first week of October, just before the festive season.

Features of Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R

The specialty of this bike is that it is the only modern road sports bike, which has an in-line four-cylinder engine with 399 cm displacement. Therefore, it is a very small volume but multicylinder fractionation engine. The engine is mounted in front of the gearbox and is powered by a multipoint indirect electronic injection system, with 4 injectors for each cylinder with 16-valve DOHC distribution. It generates approximately 57 kW (77 hp), 42 Nm of torque and can reach up to 15,000 rpm. With the help of air box, power can be increased to 80 HP.

Ninja ZX-4R is available in only one variant

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R is available in a single variant and there is only one color on offer, which is Metallic Spark Black. Like other models in Kawasaki India’s portfolio, this one also carries racing DNA. The manufacturer claims that the Ninja ZX-4R offers a handling character that is similar to that of its Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-6R.

Ninja ZX-4R Engine

Powering the aggressive looking sportsbike is a 399 cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke in-line four engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. The engine is good at producing 76 bhp of maximum power at 14,500 rpm, which can be increased to 79 bhp. The engine generates torque of 39 Nm at 13,000 rpm. This makes it the most powerful model in the 400 cc segment.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R Design

The design of the Ninja ZX-4R is quite similar to the Ninja 400 and other Ninja models. It includes split LED headlamps, sporty riding posture, Showa-sourced USD front forks and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, and a dual-disc setup at the front with radial calipers and a single disc at either end with disc brakes at both ends. The bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels, which are fitted with 120/70 section front and 160/60 section rear tyres.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R Features

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R gets four riding modes Sport, Road, Rain and Rider (customizable), which can be controlled using the 4.3-inch TFT screen. It has Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and notification updates.

Kawasaki ZXR400 was discontinued in 1989

The Kawasaki ZX-4R is already on sale in the international market and is based on the Ninja range, drawing power from a four-cylinder heart instead of a parallel-twin while displacing less than 400 cc. The new offering is the successor to the Kawasaki ZXR400, which was introduced in 1989 and saw a 300 cc four-cylinder heart making some serious power. Stricter emission norms globally as well as the popularity of motorcycles in the larger 600-1,000 cc segment led to the discontinuation of the ZXR400 in recent years.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R Price

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R is a unique offering and it is a bold step for Kawasaki India to bring a small capacity four-cylinder motorcycle to the Indian market. This bike is a completely built unit (CBU) in India, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.49. According to media reports, there will be a handful of enthusiasts who would enjoy the in-line four motor running on the ZX-4R at that price. However, Kawasaki India is yet to officially announce the details and we expect the same in the coming days.
