Katchatheevu Issue: Relations between India and Sri Lanka were discussed rapidly recently when PM Modi gave information about Katchatheevu island on social media and cornered DMK along with Congress. The fishermen released by Sri Lanka include 9 from Mayiladuthurai, 4 from Pudukottai and 6 from Karaikal. After being released, he reached Chennai airport. Let us tell you that the fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on March 6 for crossing the border.

The fishermen were given a warm welcome after setting foot on the country’s soil. In the video, some people are seen giving something in bags to the fishermen at the airport.

Why is Katchatheevu Island in discussion?

Let us tell you that recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned the history of Katchatheevu on social media and targeted Congress. PM Modi also cornered DMK on the issue. After this, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had given information about the matter in a press conference. He had said that in the year 1974, there was an agreement between India and Sri Lanka under which a maritime boundary was drawn and Katchatheevu was placed on the Sri Lankan side of the border.
