In the present times, in the OTT space, the police department and the proceedings related to it have become an important pivot of the story, its sequel is also Kalkut. Here too there is a police department, but the series does not show them as corrupt or honest, but portrays them as the product of a society that is critical of women. The way patriarchal thinking has been created in the society, it has dominated his work as well. This series questions the conditioning of men in the society.

The story hurts the patriarchy

The story of the series is of Ravi Tripathi (Vijay Verma). Whose famous teacher father (Tigmanshu Dhulia) has passed away and he lives with his mother (Seema Biswas). Recently he has got a police job, but he is not happy with this job, because he does not feel the backbone in this work. He also resigns from the job, but his SHO (Gopal Dutt) rejects the resignation saying that you do not have manly qualities. He assigns Ravi to investigate a horrific acid attack in the city. While investigating this case, when the horrors related to the case come in front of him, it brings many changes in his career as well as personal life. This is the story of eight episodes.

Script Pros and Cons

This eight-episode story brings to the fore the toxic mindset of the society related to women, but this time the makers have not made the female character the hero of the story but a male. Which has also made this series different from many recently released web series. The series progresses slowly. Sometimes it also takes the test of patience, but layer by layer this series brings many dark sides of the society to the fore. Explores the desires and ambitions of a young girl in a small town, and how society labels her and, in the name of morality, deems herself entitled to punish her if certain decisions go wrong. . This series hurts this mentality. From revenge porn to homophobia and rampant female feticide, from prejudice towards the female community to domestic violence, the story has been added to many layers of the story.

Calcutta flaws

Kalkoot also brings to the fore that the river in which he is throwing his daughters after killing them, will one day turn poisonous and retaliate against them. Talking about the shortcomings of the series, this series talks about gender inequality in a strong way, but in this eight-episode series, none of the female characters have got the voice that was an important need of the story. Be it the character of Shweta Tripathi or Seema Biswas. Most of the female characters in the film seem half-hearted. This thing wears off. The series has progressed slowly from the beginning with a very realistic treatment, but why suddenly Ravi’s character has been given the touch of an angry young man in the climax of the series. This also seems incomprehensible. A little more work was needed on all the plots of the series. The dialogues of the series do justice to the subject. Song scenes have been made more effective.

vijay verma shines again

Talking about acting, once again Vijay Verma has given a great performance, the way he has lived his character with precision in eight episodes. He should be praised for that. Yashpal Sharma is remembered. His screen duet with Vijay Verma has become good. Shweta Tripathi does justice to her role, but she didn’t have much to do. His character needed to be written in a little more detail. The same lapse has also happened with the character of a fine actress like Seema Biswas. Gopal Dutt has left his mark well in the gray character. He is generally known for his comedy characters. This time he has done a good job in the gray space. Rest of the characters have also done justice to their respective roles.
