Gumla: Although many laws have been made to ban dowry, even today daughters are being killed for dowry. At many places, marriage processions are being turned back, while at some places the marriage itself is being refused. The latest case is from Sisai police station area of Gumla district, where the groom refused to bring the wedding procession just before the marriage because his dowry demand was not fulfilled. The bride’s brother filed an application at Sisai police station demanding action. A case has been registered in the police station.
All wedding preparations were halted due to dowry
This was seen in Dadha village of Sisai police station area of Gumla district, where all the preparations for the wedding had been done. Invitation letters had also been distributed by both the parties among their relatives, but just a few days before the marriage procession, the groom started demanding a bike as dowry and Rs 2.5 lakh for the wedding expenses, failing which the marriage would not take place. Gave a warning to do so. The bride’s family and relatives became worried due to this demand of the groom. Despite many efforts, the groom was not ready for the marriage and all the preparations made by the bride’s family for the marriage went in vain. The bride’s family is tired of telling relatives the reason for the breakdown of the marriage. The family members are in shock.
Started demanding dowry just before marriage
In this regard, the bride’s brother Budheshwar Oraon had filed an application in Sisai police station on March 14, requesting to take action against the dowry greedy groom. He has said in the application that according to social customs, his sister’s marriage was fixed with Dinesh Toppo, son of late Jugal Kishore Toppo, resident of Patratoli village of Ranchi Thakurgaon police station. After distributing the invitation cards, the groom Dinesh Toppo suddenly started demanding a bike and Rs 2.5 lakh. If his demands were not fulfilled, he started blackmailing her by saying that he would not marry her. The wedding was on 15th March. A lot of effort was made to convince the groom. Many people explained that dowry is not acceptable in the tribal society, but she refused to bring the wedding procession.
Case registered in Sisai police station
Budheshwar has said in the application that the social reputation of his family and his sister has been tarnished due to Dinesh’s refusal to marry regarding dowry after distribution of invitation letters. Due to the absence of sister’s wedding procession, relatives and people in the society are talking about all kinds of things. On March 20, on the application given by Budheshwar on March 14, Sisai police registered a case under section 504 of IPC and 4th Doori Provisional Act.
