Job of 22,000 B.Ed degree teachers teaching in primary schools is in danger, read the High Court’s decision.

Patna High Court, while giving its decision on Wednesday in the light of Supreme Court’s decision, made it clear that teachers holding B.Ed degree will not be appointed in primary classes (classes one to five) in the state. The court said that only teachers with D.El.Ed degree will be appointed in primary classes. The division bench of Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Rajiv Rai passed this order while hearing a large number of writ petitions filed by Lalan Kumar and others.

Patna High Court had completed the hearing on this matter and reserved its order, on which the verdict was pronounced on Wednesday. Due to this order of the High Court, the jobs of about 22 thousand officers, whose appointment has been made during the hearing of this case, may be affected. The notification issued by NCTE on 28 June 2018 was challenged in the court. In which teachers holding B.Ed degree in primary classes were also considered eligible for teaching in primary schools. This notification was challenged in the Supreme Court through Devesh Sharma vs. Central Government and others. The Supreme Court had canceled this notification.

The court was told that in the notification issued by NCTE on June 28, 2018, teachers with B.Ed degree were also said to be eligible for appointment in primary classes. It was said in it that if a candidate who has done B.Ed course in primary schools wants to be appointed to the post of teacher, then he is required to do a Braj course of six months in primary education within two years. But, the Supreme Court had canceled that notification of NCTE in the case of Sarvesh Sharma vs. Central Government and others. The Supreme Court had clarified that only teachers with D.El.Ed degree will be appointed to teach in primary classes.
