Jio-Airtel’s dominance continues, BSNL-Vi is in bad shape, know what TRAI figures say

TRAI Data: Reliance Jio’s dominance in the telecom sector continues. According to the latest data of TRAI, Jio has added a record 34.8 lakh customers in a month. Airtel has also added 13.2 lakh new customers during this period. On the other hand, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) and government telecom company BSNL are continuously losing their customers.

The telecom regulator on Wednesday released the figures for the month of September, according to which BSNL lost 23.3 lakh customers in September, while Vi lost 7.5 lakh customers. According to TRAI, in August also, Reliance Jio had added 32,45,569 new subscribers, while Bharti Airtel had got 12,17,704 new subscribers in August. BSNL lost 22,26,548 subscribers in August, while Vodafone-Idea lost 49,782 subscribers.

Reliance Jio strengthened its hold in the telecom market and added 34.7 lakh mobile customers in September. On the other hand, the number of Airtel mobile customers increased by 13.2 lakh. Market regulator TRAI gave this information in its monthly data. Vodafone Idea (VIL) lost 7.5 lakh mobile subscribers in September, reducing its wireless subscriber base to 22.75 crore. According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data, Reliance Jio gained 34.75 lakh wireless subscribers in September and its user base increased to 44.92 crore. Bharti Airtel increased the number of its mobile subscribers by 13.2 lakh in September. With this the total wireless customers of the company increased to 37.77 crore.

According to TRAI, more than 1.26 crore customers got mobile number portability (MNP) done in September 2023, after which the total requested MNP figure increased from 8.77 crore in August to 8.90 crore by the end of September. At the same time, the number of broadband connections in the country is also increasing rapidly. According to TRAI, by the end of September, the number of broadband connections in the country has crossed 88.5 crore. 19.2 lakh new telephone connections have also been made in September and with this the total number of telephone subscribers in the country including urban and rural has increased to 118 crore. These include 65.8 crore urban connections and 52.2 crore rural connections.
