Jharkhand: State Tribal Mahakumbh Fair begins, former minister Mithilesh Thakur said, statue of Raja Medini Rai will be installed

Palamu, Saikat Chatterjee: The two-day tribal Mahakumbh fair organized in the memory of Chero king Medini Rai of Palamu was inaugurated on Sunday at Dubiyakhad in Medininagar. The fair was organized by the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs and Raja Medinirai Memorial Trust cum Fair Committee. The fair was jointly inaugurated by former minister cum Garhwa MLA Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Manika MLA Ramchandra Singh, Palamu Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan, Deputy Development Commissioner Ravi Anand, Trainee IAS Ravi Kumar and members of the fair committee. The fair will conclude on 12th February. Various departments of Palamu district administration are setting up stalls in the fair premises giving information about the government’s welfare schemes.

The government’s achievement in giving this fair the status of a state fair. 

Garhwa MLA Mithilesh Kumar Thakur said that this fair is being organized since 1991. For years, tribal people have been working to enhance the identity of their culture and civilization through this fair. It was started with the efforts of the first Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari and due to the activeness of Hemant Soren’s government of Jharkhand, it became possible that this fair took the form of a state fair. This is the achievement of the government. He said that the then Chief Minister understood the sentiments of the people of Palamu division and worked to fulfill the dreams of the tribals. The scenario of the State Fair will be further improved in the coming years. He said that the statue of Raja Medini Rai will be installed in Shivaji Maidan.

Everyone’s cooperation in improving the fair 

Manika MLA Ramchandra Singh said that those who started the Government Tribal Development Mahakumbh Mela have done a commendable job. Due to giving the status of a state fair to this fair, the tribal society will always work to respect you. He said that the tribal communities have been facing a lot of hardships since the beginning. Through the fair, efforts are being made to create the Jharkhand of the tribals’ dreams by giving them their rights and entitlements. He thanked the Palamu district administration for better preparations for organizing the fair and said that the officials have played a commendable role in its comprehensive preparations. Also, everyone together has made it better.

Next time there will be wider publicity 

Palamu Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan said that next year the Government Tribal Development Mahakumbh Mela will be widely publicized across the state. The administration is reaching out to the primitive tribal families living in remote villages and towns and providing the benefits of the schemes. This is leading to the upliftment and better development of the people of the society. He said that through this fair, information about various public welfare schemes of the government is being given by setting up stalls.

Organization of cultural program

Arjun Singh, Chairman of Medinirai Smriti Trust cum Fair Committee, put forth demands related to identifying the people living in the forests and providing them forest pattas, developing the fair site as a tourist destination, constructing a tribal hostel, etc. On the occasion, dance and music showcasing the language, culture and identity of the tribals was presented by the artists. On this occasion, folk artists from Uttar Pradesh presented many spectacular folk dances and won everyone’s heart. Stalls of various departments have been set up by the Palamu district administration on the spot. People are also being made aware of the public welfare schemes of the government through banners and posters. The book “Atit ke Jharokhe aur Present ki Jhalakh” written on the descendants of martyr Raja Medini Rai was launched in the fair.

Poonam Kumari, Priyanka Kumari, Kumari Shweta, Sangeeta Kumari, Neha Kumari, Naina Kumari, Riya Kumari, Neha Kumari, Sita Kumari, Gayatri Kumari were honored under the Chief Minister Kanyadan Yojana in the fair. The baby shower was organized for Khushboo Kumari, Punita Devi, Sheela Devi, Anima Poonam Kejar, Anita Devi, Kaushalya Kumari, Khushboo Devi, Preeti Kumari, Shruti Kumari, Sarita Devi. Anita Kumari, Deepawali Kumari, Nibha Kumari, Neha Kumari, Kajal Kumari, Kavita Kumari, Roshni Kumari, Sushma Kumari, Khushboo Kumari, Bindu Kumari were benefited under Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana. Animal Husbandry Department distributed 5 units of Goat Development and 5 units of Pig Development Scheme to the eligible beneficiaries for the financial year 23-24.
