Jharkhand: Placement agency got the responsibility of selling liquor, then the revenue reduced to 149 crores

There has been a decrease of about 50 crores in the revenue received from liquor in the state in the last four months. Retail liquor is being sold under the new system from May 1 this year. It was decided to give the responsibility of retail liquor to the new agency from May 1. The government gave the responsibility of retailing liquor to JSBCL till the selection of placement agency for retailing liquor. In May, the placement agency could be selected to sell liquor retail in five districts, retail liquor was sold by JSBCL in 19 districts, and the government got a revenue of 200 crores.

By August, the placement agency had got the responsibility of selling liquor in 16 districts. Now in August the revenue reached approximately Rs 149 crore. It is not that there has been a decline in revenue in August itself. There has been a decline in revenue every month since May. By the way, the department says that the sale of liquor decreased in July and August due to monsoon. During this period the revenue target is also kept low.

Looking at the revenue received from liquor from April to August this year, retail liquor was sold by the placement agency selected to sell liquor in April. Revenue of Rs 167 crore was received in April. After this, liquor was sold by the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited (JSBCL) under the new arrangement from May, earning a revenue of 200 crores. In May, the placement agency was responsible for selling retail liquor in five districts only. In June, when the agency was selected for more districts, a revenue of 197 crores was received.

In July the revenue increased to 160 crores and in August the revenue increased to 149 crores. By August, the placement agency had got the responsibility of selling liquor in 16 districts. In the districts for which the placement agency has not been selected, its process is likely to be completed by the end of this month.
