Jharkhand: Lalita, once a wood seller, is today a role model for women.

Lohardaga, Gopi/Sanjay: Lalita improved her life from poverty with her hard work and dedication. Due to hard work, he created a distinct identity for himself in the society. Lalita Oraon is a resident of Kisko village. She joined Mahila Mandal in 2015. Life was very difficult. After the death of her husband, she started selling wood. She used to walk from her village Kisko to Badkichampi market on foot carrying a bundle of wood on her head. At that time it was sold between Rs 12 to Rs 21 per bundle. His family’s expenses were covered by that. Lalita also worked as a porter for some time. Sometimes she used to go from village to village, buy paddy and sell it. The family used to survive from that. But sometimes a lot of problems had to be faced. Lalita says that sometimes there was not even one meal of rice in the house. There was also problem of soap and oil. Then she started making liquor and selling it to educate the child.

Loan received from self-help group changed life

Lohardaga Lalita says that during her child’s studies, she joined the self-help group Sarai Phool Mahila Mandal. Took first loan of Rs 20 thousand from the group. For the second time, she took a loan of Rs 30,000 for her child’s education and returned it on time. Lalita says that selling liquor did not bring much respect in the society. The child’s education was also affected. During the same time, took a third loan of Rs 40 thousand. He opened a small hotel in the village. Due to which good income is being generated today. Built a house with the hotel’s earnings. Completed the child’s education. Presently Lalita Oraon is earning around Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh per year from her hotel after deducting the daily wages of three laborers and one artisan and the daily expenses and payments of the hotel. Lalita Oraon, who was once in need of food, is today emerging as a symbol of women empowerment in her block Kisko.
