Jharkhand High Court seeks reply from ED in the bail case of former DC Chhavi Ranjan

Ranchi: The court of Justice Deepak Rashan of Jharkhand High Court heard the bail petition filed by former Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, accused in a money laundering case related to the purchase and sale of army-occupied land. During the hearing of the case, the court heard the applicant’s side. After this the court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a reply. Four weeks time provided to file reply. The court fixed November 30 for the next hearing of the case. Earlier, it was told on behalf of the applicant that he had no involvement in the illegal sale of land occupied by the army.

He requested for bail. Senior advocate Anil Kumar appeared on behalf of ED. It is noteworthy that the bail petition has been filed on behalf of the applicant, former Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Chhavi Ranjan. The ED had arrested the then Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Chhavi Ranjan, on May 4 this year, in view of his involvement in the case of illegal purchase and sale of 4.55 acres of army-occupied land located at Bariatu Road. In this case, an FIR has been registered in Bariatu police station under case number 14/2022. IIR-01/2023 has also been registered by ED.

Chhavi Ranjan’s bail hearing on October 20

The bail hearing of suspended IAS Chhavi Ranjan, accused in the land scam case, will be held in the court of Special ED Judge Dinesh Rai on October 20. On Monday, a bail petition was filed on his behalf in the court. This case is related to the purchase and sale of land in Cheshire Home Road with the help of fake documents. Earlier, he had filed a bail application in another case related to the army land at Bariatu, which was rejected by the court. ED is investigating two land related cases in Ranchi. Chhavi Ranjan is accused in both the cases. Currently Chhavi Ranjan is lodged in Hotwar jail.
