Jharkhand: Farmers will be able to earn income throughout the year through integrated farming system, model is in operation since 2007.

Galudih (East Singhbhum), Mohd. Parvez: By adopting the model of integrated farming system of Darisai Regional Agricultural Research Center under East Singhbhum district, both the condition and direction of the farmers of the area will change. Local farmers should adopt integrated farming, hence this model was created here in 2007. Since then he has been promoting agriculture. To properly operate this integrated farming system, the Zonal Research Center has hired a farmer couple, Mathur Singh and his wife Chanchla Singh, on honorarium. For this, both of them are being given Rs 7 thousand each per month i.e. a total of Rs 14 thousand. Apart from this, a house for living has also been made available. All facilities to promote integrated farming have also been provided to the farmer couple.

Along with goats, chickens, ducks, cows and fish are being reared.

While giving information, the farmer couple said that we are rearing goats, chickens, ducks, cows and fish here. Money is coming from eggs and milk. Also sell chicken. There is a lot of demand for desi chicken in the market. The price is also good. Vegetables are also being cultivated with the pond water. Fish farming is also going on. Farmers from nearby areas come here. Take practical information and also learn by observing.

Farming for 12 months is an integrated farming system: Director

Dr N Salam, co-director of Darisai Regional Agricultural Research Centre, said that integrated farming system means 12 months farming. There will be a pond in it, where fish farming will take place. There will be gardening, vegetable cultivation and other crops around the pond. By building a goat shed nearby, goats, hens, ducks and cows will be reared. Income will be earned by selling cow-goat milk, fish and chicken eggs. Vegetables will be cultivated for twelve months with the water of the pond. Manure will be used from cow-bull dung. That means mixed farming. Promote animal and fish farming along with farming. Throughout the years, money will come from someone or the other. In view of the changing climate, it is necessary for every farmer to adopt integrated farming system. For this purpose, a model of integrated farming system is being prepared in Darisai and work is being done to promote it to the farmers by adopting it.

Salam, co-director of Darisai Center and other agricultural scientists and reviewed natural agriculture. Actually, under the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), training on natural agriculture is going on in Ranchi for 15 days from September 4 to 17. Six agricultural scientists from BAU and six from Raipur i.e. a total of 12 are included in this training. The team director is Dr. MSS Malik and the project coordinator is Dr. BK Aggarwal. Barik, Premlal Sahu, Dr. Chandraresh Kumar, Swati Thakur, Dr. Roshan Lal, M. Ansari, Nirmal etc.

Emphasis on old method

Dr. N. Salam took the team on a field visit and informed them about the research work and other activities. Everyone was happy to see various experiments, integrated farming system, newly developed gardens, mango, litchi, pear, MLT crops (paddy) and vegetable cultivation being done in poly houses. Everyone appreciated the work. Dr N Salam said that initiatives are being taken to divert farmers towards natural farming. Instead of manure, neem manure, cake, neem seeds and leaves are being given. There is talk of adopting cow dung and earthworm manure. The way farmers used to do farming using the old method, now emphasis is being laid on adopting the same method. This will improve agriculture and the produce will also be better.

Cultivation of Nagpur variety of orange for the first time in Darisai

Agricultural scientists had planted Nagpur variety of oranges for the first time for their research in the premises of Darisai Regional Agricultural Research Center, which has yielded a lot of fruits. The plants have bent due to being loaded with oranges. Dr N Salam, co-director of Darisai Centre, said that it is Nagpur variety of orange. It will be ripe and ready in the month of October. If its taste is better, it will prove better for the farmers of this area. Nagpur variety of orange is growing better in this soil. The price of orange is also better in the market. It is a cash crop. If farmers adopt this, the economic benefits will be greater. Orange comes out twice. Once in winter and second in summer. The Nagpur variety of orange that has been planted will emerge before winter by October. There are about 20-25 saplings planted in Darisai. All the plants are loaded with oranges. The plants have been placed on supports.
