Jharkhand: Emphasis on Rabi crop, pulses and oilseeds in East Singhbhum district, focus on production of coarse grains also.

In East Singhbhum district, emphasis is on increasing the production of pulses and oilseeds in Rabi crops. Rabi crop is grown in 43040 hectares in the district, under which the Agriculture Department is working with the target of producing pulses in 15500 hectares and oilseeds in 19040 hectares. Efforts have also been started to increase the production of coarse grains. There is a target of 1500 hectares of maize in the district in Rabi, but it has not yielded much better and positive results, due to which new focus is being placed on oilseeds and pulses. District Agriculture Officer Mithlesh Kalindi said that in order to increase the interest of the farmers of the district and to promote cash crops, more pulses and oilseeds are being cultivated in the Rabi crop this year, whereas wheat is considered the main Rabi crop, but Farmers in the district are emphasizing on the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds only. Farmers of the district have started the work of planting pulses and oilseeds crops. Against the target given so far, pulses have been planted in 782 hectares, while oilseeds have been planted in 1072 hectares.
