Kharsawan, Sachindra Kumar Dash: Central Silk Board Member Secretary P Shivakumar (IFS) Seraikela Visited Kharsawan PPC. He closely observed the activities of silk from the king’s soil. On this occasion, he also distributed insect rearing materials to Tasar silk rearers and discussed insect rearing activities with them. During the discussion, future action plan of Tasar silk production was also highlighted. Such as – collective brainstorming, communication with farmers, distribution of material to farmers, fair price of cocoons and increase in price, comprehensive system of cocoon procurement, more production of seeds and system for prevention of diseases.

Concern expressed over decreasing production of Tasar Kosa

Central Silk Board member secretary P Shiva Kumar expressed concern over the declining production of Tasar Kosa. He said that till three years ago, 3800 MT Tasar Kosa was produced in the country, but last year only 1300 MT was produced. Jharkhand has been the leading state in the country in Tasar production, but in the last three years there has been a significant decline in Tasar production in Jharkhand too. 70 percent of the total production in the country comes from Jharkhand only. In such a situation, the production of Tasar Kosa has decreased by about 30 percent in Jharkhand also. The Central Government is continuously working to promote the production of Tasar Kosa. The shortcomings are being removed. Recently, the Central Silk Board has posted seven Tasar scientists in Jharkhand, who will assist the farmers in every way in Tasar cultivation. Many schemes are being run under Silk Samagra-II.

2.22 lakh people are involved in insect rearing in Jharkhand

In the program, Dr. NB Choudhary, Director of Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi, while pointing out the major benefits of Tasar cultivation, said that it is environment friendly, capable of carbon sequestration and is the pivot of traditional rural employment for poor tribals. He said that 2.22 lakh people are involved in insect rearing work in Jharkhand. Jharkhand produces 60 to 70 percent of Tasar in the entire country. Kolhan is the main area of ​​Tasar production, where 40 percent of Jharkhand’s Tasar production is produced. He expressed hope that the production of Tasar will increase further this year. During the program, there was a detailed discussion on increasing Tasar production and the idea of ​​taking the cooperation of the Forest Department was also expressed for this. Assistant Director (Silk) Kolhan KK Yadav, DFO Seraikela Aditya Kumar, scientist Dr. Jai Prakash Pandey etc. were present in the program.

Member Secretary of Central Silk Board inspected Chaibasa Raw Material Bank

Central Silk Board Member Secretary P Shiva Kumar (IFS) visited Kolhan along with a team of Tasar scientists. Along with inspecting the Raw Material Bank at Chaibasa and P-4 Tasar Breeding Centre, Chakradharpur, he also visited the area. During this, the activities of the Raw Material Bank were reviewed.
