Jharkhand: Aunt beats 6 year old niece to death in Chatra, arrested

Chatra, Mohd. Showdown: In Hasaut village of Mokatma Panchayat of Chatra Sadar police station area, aunt beat her six-year-old niece Pinky Kumari to death. The police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused aunt. The incident happened late Wednesday evening. It is said that after killing Pinky, the aunt tied her in a shawl and threw her on the banks of the nearby river and then later she started raising hue and cry about the girl’s disappearance. After this, when the villagers started searching for the girl, they saw that her dead body was lying on the river bank. The girl’s body was brought home early on Thursday morning and information about it was given to the Sadar police.

FIR registered against aunty

After receiving information about the incident, police station in-charge Shiv Prakash Kumar, police sub-inspector Khushboo Rani and Shriram Pandit arrived and took the body of the girl in their custody and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. In this regard, the girl’s relative, Sobhi Ganjhu, resident of Bhuiyandih, has filed an application in the police station and registered a case of murder against the girl’s aunt Basanti Devi (husband Lallu Ganjhu). Police station in-charge said that a case of murder has been registered against Basanti Devi and she has been arrested.

Villagers told that Pinky’s mother had died four months ago. His father Kailash Ganjhu lives in Gujarat and works as a labourer. The girl lived with her aunt. During interrogation, Basanti told the police that she first hit the girl with her punch. Later beaten with sticks. Due to this she fell on the ground. Then he tied it in a shawl and threw it on the river bank.
