India-Canada Row: The Prime Minister of Canada has once again given a statement on India. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has said that India’s attitude now seems to have changed. He also said that due to the allegations made by America on India, there has been a change in India’s behavior. Justin Trudeau on Wednesday said there may have been a ‘change’ in India’s relations with Canada after an Indian was indicted in a plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil.
“Government of India agreed to adopt a polite approach”
Justin Trudeau, during a conversation with the ‘Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’ yesterday, said that he feels that now India has started to understand that they cannot move forward like this and now there is a kind of openness in cooperation and They probably weren’t so open before. He said that the American accusation shows that the Indian government is ready to adopt a humble attitude. He said there is an understanding that this problem probably will not end simply by being an aggressor against Canada.
“Do not want to get into any conflict situation with India.”
He said, ‘We do not want to get into a situation of any conflict with India at this time. We want to work on this. We want to move forward on the Indo-Pacific strategy, but it is important for Canada to stand up for people’s rights, people’s security and the rule of law. And that’s what we’re going to do right here. Relations between India and Canada had become extremely tense after Justin Trudeau in September made allegations of ‘possible’ involvement of an Indian agent in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia on June 18. India had declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020.
India termed Trudeau’s allegations as ‘absurd’
India had rejected Trudeau’s allegations, calling them ‘absurd’. Federal prosecutors in the US in November accused an Indian citizen of being involved in a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader. Last month, US federal prosecutors filed charges against Nikhil Gupta for abetting a conspiracy to kill a Sikh separatist.
