Foundation day of Gorakhpur station will be celebrated for the first time

For the first time, the foundation day of stations will now be celebrated in North Eastern Railway. It will start from Gorakhpur. This station came into existence on 15 January 1885. Therefore, there will be a festive atmosphere at Gorakhpur Junction on 15 January 2024. The cake will be cut on the platform itself and the passengers of Vande Bharat train will be welcomed with rose flowers. Along with this, a photo gallery will be set up near the AC lounge. In this, historical heritage related to the development journey of North Eastern Railway will be kept. The railway administration has already started preparations for this. Gorakhpur Junction was built by the British. According to railway documents, during that time the main line was laid from Sonpur to Chapra, Gorakhpur to Mankapur. The station building was one storey and had half a dozen rooms. There was a tiled roof. The room situated at the eastern end was the refreshment room. Signaling was very primitive.

Foundation day of the station has not been celebrated yet

A four lever frame on the platform in front of the station master’s office controlled four home signals at points in front. At that time, the only bungalows lit with electricity belonged to agents and loco superintendents. The light came from a small plant in the agent’s premises, which he had installed at his own expense. There was a waiting room for passengers to sit. Whereas there was also a VIP room for the British. No one else was allowed to go there. The foundation day of the station has never been celebrated since its formation. Now the Railway Administration has decided to make the Foundation Day memorable. So that passengers can also know about the importance of this railway and its availability. Also, the new generation can know how the development journey of this railway has been and what such achievements have been made. Meanwhile, NER CPRO Pankaj Kumar Singh said that preparations are being made to celebrate the foundation day of major stations with the aim of giving information about the historicity of the station. On this occasion, the history of the station will be shown to the passengers through a photo exhibition.
