India, US need to increase cooperation on AI: Satya Nadella

Veteran technology company Microsoft chief Satya Nadella on Wednesday advocated increased cooperation between India and the US on rules and other norms related to artificial intelligence (AI). Nadella, who grew up in India, said a broader partnership between India and the US on AI could also help in equitable distribution of economic growth.

Participating in a Microsoft event here, Nadella said that AI is a powerful new technology that needs to be rapidly ‘disseminated’ to every corner of the world. Nadella, who is on a two-day visit to India, said, “I think it is important for India and the US in particular to be able to cooperate on this and set relevant norms and rules.”

He was answering a question related to cooperation between America and India on artificial intelligence. On this occasion, Nadella also announced that Microsoft will provide opportunities to 20 lakh people in India to become proficient in AI by the year 2025. Describing India as one of the markets with high growth rates, he said that AI can help in accelerating GDP growth in the country.
