Independence Day 2023: The city of revolutionaries and freedom fighters settled on the banks of the Ganges did not wait till the dawn of Independence Day 15 August 1947. In Kanpur, which played a major role in the non-violence movement since the revolution of 1857, the flag was hoisted on the top of the middle temple on Meston Road as soon as the date changed at 12 midnight on 14th August.

In the night itself, the road of Meston Road was filled to the brim with the drunkards of freedom. There is enthusiasm for the 76th Independence Day in Kanpur, the tricolor is being hoisted in the houses. There is a demand for the tricolor in the markets. The patriotic townspeople themselves are buying the flag from the market. At the same time, flags ranging from 20 to 300 rupees are being sold in the market.

The then Chief Minister had addressed the gathering

On 14th August 1947, at 12 midnight, the flag was hoisted at the temple built on the middle of the road in Meston Road of the city by invoking Swadhinta Devi. 94-year-old veteran Congressman Shankar Dutt Mishra says that the first flag hoisting of the city was done by freedom fighter Shivnarayan Tandon, the then city president of the City Congress Committee. Flag hoisting was also done at 8 am in the KEM building of Phulbagh Maidan. The procession that came out from Tilak Hall on Meston Road reached Phoolbagh Maidan.

The then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Govind Ballabh Pant had come here to address the meeting. It goes on to say that there is a lot of enthusiasm in the city regarding the 76th Independence Day. People are busy preparing to hoist the flag. On the eve of independence, street plays are being staged at many places and exhibitions of the journey of the tricolor have been organized. Selfie programs will be organized and morning processions will be taken out. Patriotic songs will be played at the martyr’s memorial of the city. Freedom fighters will be honored by their relatives.

130 feet high flag will be hoisted again in Phulbagh

JC Eye Club Kanpur has again enthusiastically prepared to hoist the 130 feet flag at Phulbagh. The club has given the slogan Chalo, sab feharane saath, kadam bhi mile aur mile haath. Online tricolor is also being sold a lot. A company is selling four feet long and six feet wide flag made of cloth for up to Rs.1700. The demand for this big size flag is also very high.
