Rohit Sharma said this after winning the toss

We are going to bat first. We have made some changes, four changes. Some injuries and some people are returning from the last game. Two budding artists. Siraj and Jadeja are back. Akshar Patel and Mukesh Kumar missed. It looks like a good pitch, better than the last two pitches we have played on. Rajkot’s pitch is considered good but as it progresses it will get worse. People have stood up and worked for the team when needed. The next three test matches will also be as exciting as the first two. We have to keep our focus here and see how we can do well.

Ben Stokes said this after losing the toss

We would also have batted first. (On playing his 100th Test) Time flies when you’re having fun. The series has been a fair reflection of both teams, we are very happy with the way we did things in the first two Tests. We took a good break, gave everyone a chance to rest. There was no cricket, we took the families out, it was great. It is physically and mentally difficult to stay here for such a long time. This was a good opportunity for me to get ready again and stay away from cricket for some time. There are only so many moments in Test matches that you take over the game and that is what India did in the last match. Just a change for us.

Deep Dasgupta and Nick Knight’s pitch report

Looks like an absolutely fantastic surface. A bit of a two-colour, some dry cracks near the wickets but as we go down, there is a good cover of grass and it is tough. There is a green tint to the surface, enough for those who are in a hurry. There is a little bit of rough outside the stumps but not much for the spinners – at least in the first few days. As we move towards the professional parts of the pitch there is some dampness. The cracks are there but they won’t really be opening any time soon. Excellent batting surface. Grass can help fast bowlers in the beginning and an aggressive captain can bowl first. The second and third days will be very good for batting.
