India has leveled the series 1-1 by defeating England by 106 runs on the fourth day of the second Test match in Visakhapatnam. Jasprit Bumrah, who took nine wickets in both the innings, was the player of the match.
Team India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah broke the back of England by taking six wickets in the first innings. He made many powerful batsmen his victims, which included Ollie Pole, Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes. Bumrah took three wickets in the second innings also.
Ravichandran Ashwin took full advantage of his experience. Even though he did not take a single wicket in the first innings, he took three wickets in the second innings. Ashwin is now the Indian bowler taking the most wickets against England with 96 wickets.
Young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal did wonders. He batted brilliantly in India’s first innings and scored the first double century of his Test career. Jaiswal’s innings contained 19 fours and 7 sixes. He was out after scoring 209 runs.
Shubman Gill’s drought of runs ended and in his 13th Test innings he not only crossed the 50-run mark but also scored a century. On the basis of his century, India gave a big target of 399 runs to England in the second innings. Gill’s innings contained 11 fours and two sixes.
Overall, this match was in the name of Indian bowlers. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah’s six wickets in the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets in his name. Akshar Patel got one success. Jack Crowley scored the maximum 76 runs in the first innings for England.
James Anderson, Showik Bashir and Rehan Ahmed bowled impressively against India. All three took three wickets each. Apart from Jaiswal, no other Indian batsman could touch the score of 35 runs in the first innings. Gill was the second highest scorer of 34 runs.
Tom Hartley once again proved to be dangerous in India’s second innings. He took four wickets in his name. Apart from Shreyas Iyer and Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah became victims of Hartley in the lower order. Bumrah and Kuldeep could not even open the account.
Overall, Monday was a good day for India. Indian bowlers destroyed England’s top batting order in the first session of the fourth day itself. By lunch, six England batsmen were out. After that, India won the match by taking four wickets in the second session.
