IND vs AUS T20: Josh Inglis scored a century in 47 balls, equaled Glenn Maxwell’s record

Four days after playing the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia, India is once again facing Australia. The first T20 match is being played on Thursday.

Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis scored a century in 47 balls while batting at number 3 in the first T20I of the five-match series against India. He equaled Glenn Maxwell’s fastest century.

Inglis, along with the experienced Steve Smith, launched the attack on the Indian bowlers at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Inglis scored his first half-century in 29 balls. In the next eighteen balls, the Australian batsman completed his maiden century to create history in the shortest format of the game.

Inglis has equaled the record for the fastest century by an Australian in men’s T20I. He has scored his first T20I century for Australia. English is also at second place in terms of scoring T20I century against India.

Batting stormily, English scored 110 runs in 50 balls with eight sixes and 11 fours. He made a partnership of 130 runs for the second wicket with opener Steve Smith (52).

For India, Prasidh Krishna (one wicket for 50 runs) and Ravi Bishnoi (one wicket for 54 runs) took one wicket each but both proved to be very expensive. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to bowl first. Australia’s batsmen did not face much trouble on a batting-friendly pitch.

Smith opened his account with a four on Arshdeep and then hit two fours on Prasidh Krishna in the second over. Matthew Short (13) also opened his account with a four on Krishna and then hit two fours on Axar Patel. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi took Smith’s catch on his own ball in the fifth over but gave India its first success by bowling Short (13) one ball later.

Smith along with English took the innings forward. Both of them took the team’s score to 40 runs for one wicket in six overs of power play. English targeted Krishna in the eighth over and scored 19 runs in his over with three fours and one six. He also hit a six on Bishnoi in the next over.

Inglis completed his half-century in 29 balls with a six on Bishnoi and completed the team’s century of runs in the 12th over. He also hit another six and a four in the same over. English also hit three sixes on Bishnoi in the 15th over. Smith also completed his half-century in 40 balls with a four on Mukesh Kumar. But he was run out on the very next ball.
