Chandrayaan-4: After the success of Chandrayaan 3, ISRO has now started a new mission. ISRO Chairman S Somnath has given information about that mission during a program. Under this mission, ISRO is preparing to bring back samples from the Moon in four years. ISRO is preparing to launch Chandrayaan-4 for this mission. S Somnath explained all this information in detail on the space agency’s Vision 2047. Also giving information, he said that the first module of the Indian Space Station will be launched by 2028. This will be India’s planned space station which will be capable of carrying out experiments with the help of robots.

S Somnath, during a lecture at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier called on the space agency to set up a space station by 2035 and send a man to the Moon by 2040. Although at present this mission may seem far away, but continuous efforts are being made to make human space flight which will probably be launched in the next three to four months.
How will space work?
Information is coming out that the SPADEX experiment itself will demonstrate the docking capability. Let us tell you that docking is a process where two spacecraft are aligned in a precise orbit and join together. A similar technology is being planned to be installed in Chandrayaan-4. Explaining the mission, ISRO Chief S Somnath said, “Two satellites that are connected to each other will be launched, they will separate, travel a few kilometres, and then come back and connect.”
Technology will have to be developed
Let us tell you that even after Russia’s withdrawal, India successfully developed the lander and rover on Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3 missions, Somnath said that for the sample-return mission, “what we developed for landing More technology is required than what has been done. In such a situation, it is becoming clear that this mission is possible only after further enhancing the technology currently available with ISRO.
What will you send?
S Somnath also said that work is underway to develop technologies such as a robotic arm to collect samples, mechanisms for docking in lunar orbit and Earth orbit, transfer of samples, re-entry into the atmosphere without burning, etc. It will also be demonstrated by the Gaganyaan mission (will send astronauts to low Earth orbit and bring them back to Earth).
When can the rocket be launched?
While the first module could be launched with existing rockets in 2028, building the entire space station would require a heavier launch vehicle, he said. Somnath said that ISRO is working on designing the Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGVL), which will have the capacity to launch 16 to 25 tonnes into low earth orbit. More importantly, ISRO is in discussions with NASA and the European Space Agency to create a common interface between the Indian space station and these countries.
