There are many places in Bihar related to Lord Shri Ram and Janak Nandini, Mother Sita along with Pawan’s son Hanuman, about which you might know very little. The whole country is excited about the consecration of Shri Ram’s life in the grand Ram temple of Ayodhya. Know how Shri Ram and Mother Sita were connected with Bihar…

1. Munger: Mother Sita had given the ordeal here

Sitakund is five kilometers east of the district headquarters in Munger, Bihar. In the month of Magh, a large number of people come here to take a dip in this pond. According to the story related to Treta Yuga, Mother Sita had given the ordeal of fire in this same pond after returning from Lanka. Mother Sita was successful in this test of fire and she used three drops of sweat to calm the fire here. The water of this pond remains hot throughout the year. There are also four more ponds, which people know by the names of Ram Kund, Laxman Kund, Bharat Kund and Sita Kund. The water of these ponds remains very cool. According to the mythology, after Sita’s ordeal, the four brothers created these ponds with their arrows.

2. Darbhanga: Shri Ram had saved Goddess Ahalya with the help of his feet.

Maryada Purushottam Prabhu Shri Ram has a deep connection with Mithila. This place has special importance because it saved the feet of Ahalya, who had turned to stone due to the curse of her husband. Devotees from all over the country come to Ahalyasthan located in Ahiyari village of Jale block, which is one of the famous pilgrimage places of Mithila. Devotees of Ram keep coming from other countries throughout the year. According to the scriptures, after killing the demon Tatka, Shri Ram had reached Ahalyasthan with his brother Lakshman while going to Janakpur with Maharishi Vishwamitra. There, on the orders of the Guru, in the hut of jurisprudence pioneer Maharishi Gautam, Ahalya, a devoted woman who was turned to stone due to the curse of her husband, was saved with the help of his feet. Thousands of devotees come to the pilgrimage site Ahalyasthan for a fortnight long fair on Ram Navami. After darshan and worship, they offer a load of brinjal. It is believed that by offering a load of brinjal, a disease called warts is cured. Chairman of the Trust Committee, Baleshwar Thakur says that although devotees keep coming here throughout the year, but on Vivah Panchami, a large number of devotees also come to see the live presentation of Sita-Ram marriage.

3. Shringi Rishi’s Ashram in Lakhisarai

Shringi Rishi’s ashram is situated in Suryagarha block of Lakhisarai district of Bihar province. The distance of this place from the district headquarters is about 22 kilometers. Let us tell you that Shringi Rishi had performed Putrakameshthi Yagya on the request of King Dasharatha. Let us tell you that there is Shringi Rishi Ashram here, where couples wishing to have a child come here and make a wish. There is also a water pond here and where people take bath and offer milk to the tree roots here.

4. Buxar: Ram and Lakshman received education here

Ram and Lakshman received special education in the ashram of Maharishi Vishwamitra located in Buxar district of Bihar. It was here that he killed many demons including Tadka and Subahu.

5. Sita rested in Patna during her farewell after marriage.

There is a very ancient temple of Mata Sita and Janaki Ghat in Baksi Mohalla of Patna. There is a single idol of Mother Sita here. This is the only temple in the country where there is a single idol of Sita Ji. It is said that this is the same place where Janak Nandani’s daughter Sita ji landed at this place while going to her in-laws’ house (Ayodhya) with Maharaj Dashrath and the people of Ayodhya after her marriage with Shri Ram and it is believed that Mother Sita’s palanquin ( Dola) was kept at this place. He took rest for some time while going to Ayodhya.

6. King Dashrath had performed Yagya in Singheshwar of Madhepura.

According to Valmiki Ramayana, when King Dashrath’s queens were not able to get a son and the king started feeling sad, then Vice Chancellor Vashishtha advised him to perform Kameshti Yagya for his son. When the queens asked him to organize a yagya. On which Guru Vashishtha told him that this Yagya can be performed only by the sage Shringi Muni who is a complete expert of Atharvaveda. On the basis of legend and religious texts, historians believe that there were many sages Shringi. One of these became famous during the Ramayana period and the other during the Mahabharata period. A sage Shringi also lived in Lakhisarai, Bihar. He was a great expert in Tantra. Sage Shringi of Ramayana had chosen Sinheshwar of Madhepura for this yagya. King Dasharatha came to Sinheshwar from Ayodhya barefoot. This place named Satokhar still exists at a short distance from the then Ringeshwar temple (Singeshwar place) worshiped by Rishi Ringi.

7. Shri Ram, Lakshman and Sita came to perform Pind Daan of their father.

After returning from exile in Tretayuga, Lord Shri Ram along with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman had reached Gayaji to perform Pind Daan of his father Dasharatha. It is described in the Puranas that Ram had landed on Nagkoot mountain at the eastern end of the Falgu river from Pushpak Viman. Shri Ram and his brother Lakshman performed Pind Daan of their father Dasharatha. Ram had also established Pataleshwar Mahadev on the Ramshila altar here. Shri Ram had taken bath in Ramkund Sarovar below the mountain and offered water to his father.

8. King Janak had found Sita in the land of Sitamarhi.

Punaura Dham (Sitamarhi) is considered to be the birthplace of Mother Janaki. There is also a temple of Maa Janaki here. This Janaki temple of Punaura village of Sitamarhi will now be made more grand. There is a plan to build Janaki Dham here like Ayodhya Ram temple. It is believed that it was at this place that Sita was found by King Janak from the ground. King Janak was advised by a priest to plow during a severe famine. In this sequence, he found Sita in an earthen vessel inside the ground. There are many pilgrimage sites related to Mother Sita and King Janak around Punaura. The Shiva temple where King Janak worshiped is known as Haleshwar Temple.
