Public worship of Maa Kali also started in Bhagalpur 300 years ago and now it is being worshiped in every home. The statue of Maa Kali is installed in every locality. The special thing in this is that the name and method of worship of Maa Kali is also different. Somewhere worship is done using Tantric method, somewhere according to Bengali method and somewhere according to Vedic method. Mother is called by names like Parbatti, Ishakchak, Momintola, Budhiya Kali in Habibpur, Hadbadiya Kali in Mandroja, Navayugi Kali in Rikabganj, Masani Kali, Barmasia Kali, Ratikali, Jubilee Kali, Bamkali etc. in Urdu Bazaar and Budhanath.

The old lady Kali of Parbatti and Ishakchak is very ancient.

Kali Maa of Parbatti is very ancient. Hence the name Budhiya Kali. 20 years ago, the banyan tree was shattered by a lightning strike, but it is believed that by the grace of the mother, the banyan tree was restored to its original condition. People believe that wishes made with a true heart are fulfilled. The idol of Mother Goddess sits under the open sky. The chief patron is Kameshwar Yadav and a group of youth is associated with him. On the other hand, old woman Kali of Ishakchak also lives under the open sky.

Mother remains laden with gold and silver in Sonapatti, Warsaliganj and Mundichak.

In Sonapatti, Warsaliganj and Mundichak, Maa Kali is laden with gold, silver and diamonds and pearls. There is a tradition of offering gold and silver among goldsmiths. Vijay Sah, former secretary of the District Goldsmith Association, said that puja is performed by the Goldsmith Society at all three places. There is more tradition of offering gems in Mundichak and Sonapatti. However, it is no less in Warsaliganj also. 200 years ago in Sonapatti, children started worshiping their mother by making Pindi. The black place was made grand by the goldsmiths. Vijay Sah told that worship is done here according to Vedic rituals.

Goddess Kali has been worshiped in Jogsar for 200 years.

Mother Kali has been worshiped in Bam Kali Jogsar for more than 200 years. When the tradition of immersion procession of the idol started in a queue, Bamkali used to be at the forefront. From 1960, the idol of Parbatti’s old lady Kali started going at the front for immersion and the idol of Bam Kali started going at the back. Local social worker Abhay Ghosh Sonu told that the Kali here was established by Bama Khepa. Hence the name Bamkali Maa.

Worship is done in the name of Masani Kali near Urdu Bazaar and Budhanath.

Mother is worshiped in the name of Masani Kali at Urdu Bazaar and Budhanath Ghat. Puja started here 150 years ago. Ordinary clay idols were made in Urdu market. A statue decorated 40 years ago is being made. Secretary Girishchandra Bhagat told that Masani Kali is considered Siddha.

Goddess Kali is worshiped in Ishaakchak by Tantric method.

Maa Budhiya Kali located at Ishakchak is worshiped in Tantric method. Mother Pindi is worshiped here. Here Mata does not sit in the temple. They are worshiped in the open. Mata’s Pindi was kept here 125 years ago. A temple was built nearby in 1985. Temple priest Vijay Kumar Mishra alias Bachchu Pandit told that when the railway line started being built next to the temple, the pindi of Maa Kali was brought to the side of the railway. Right now there is a wall around the lump of earth. The idol of Mother Goddess is installed in the middle.

Chakraborty Kali came from Bengal

Kali temple was established in Champanagar Bengali Tola in 1700 AD. Social activist Devashish Banerjee told that Devendra Nath’s father Nabho Chakraborty was a landlord of Birbhum district of West Bengal. His family were staunch devotees of Mother Kali. He used to worship the Mother Goddess in his Kali temple located in Veerbhum. On coming here, Kali temple was established. There is hardly any temple in Bihar where Maa Kali is worshiped in both Vaishnavi and Tantric methods.

Worship is done in Bengali style in Durgabari and Kalibari.

Maa Kali is worshiped according to Bengali rituals in Mashakchak Durgabari and Kalibari located on Manik Sarkar Ghat Road. Both the places have 100 years old history. The culture here is related to West Bengal.
