Local MP Lallu Singh said on Wednesday that the name of Ayodhya Railway Junction has been changed to Ayodhya Dham Junction. The new building is located next to the old station building. The Uttar Pradesh government changed the name of Faizabad district to Ayodhya district in 2019 and after that in 2021, Faizabad Junction was renamed as Ayodhya Cantt. The redevelopment work at the station has been carried out by ‘Rail India Technical and Economic Services Limited’ (RITES), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways and one of the Navratnas.
In the board installed near the new structure, the new station has been described as an ‘extension building’ of the existing railway station. PTI had visited the newly constructed station earlier this week when the remaining masonry, stone polishing and painting work was being done.
A senior RITES official said that the new station building has many modern facilities which passengers usually get at the airport. He told that but the construction of the next part is based on the Ram temple being built in the city. A person, while maintaining anonymity, told PTI, “The front part of the building has pillars made of sandstone and at the end of the bank there are tall circular pillars and these are also made of sandstone. “There is a structure at the top of the station designed like a royal ‘crown’ while a bow has been painted on a wall just below it,” the official said. This shows that the city of Ayodhya is related to Lord Ram. This building is three storeyed. There is a ‘Shikhar’ at the top of each of its two corners which is built like Nagara style temples. There are two ‘Chhatris’ built in the front part of the station.
The shape of a bow and arrow is made on the electric poles installed in front of the new building of Ayodhya station. Ram Phal, a mason from Chhattisgarh who was engaged in the construction work of a new building, pointed out these electric poles while finishing his work on Tuesday. He told, “There is Ramji’s ‘bow and arrow’ on this electric pole. The entire station looks like a temple. I am happy that Ram temple is being built in Ayodhya.
Hindus believe that Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Ram. After sunset, both the old and new buildings of the station glow with pink light. The central hall of the station has stone inlay work and its roof is ‘polycarbonate sheet’ which gives a blue tint to parts of its high ceiling.
