IIT Placement: What is 3I, in search of which IIT students do not get placement?

IIT Placement: These days the news of 36% bachelor students not getting placement in IIT Bombay is spreading very fast. In such a situation, the question arises that due to what reasons IIT students do not get 100% placement. Most of the students studying in IIT look for 3I. Now you might be wondering what this is 3I. Let us tell you about 3I.

3I means – Industry, Innovation and Income. There are many students who want to start their own startup company after getting a degree from IIT. There are many who make huge innovations in some other field. Like taking a company to the next level with a completely different strategy. The third I means income. There are many students who are not able to take campus placement in search of a better income.

In fact, last month the news came that the top most management institute like IIM Lucknow had sought help from alumni for placement. After this, now there has been news that 36% of bachelor students did not get placement in IIT Bombay also. This year, 2000 students had registered for placement in IIT Bombay, out of which 712 students could not be placed.

If you convert it into percentage then about 36% students have not got placement. For your information, let us also tell you that according to NIRF ranking, IIT Bombay has been ranked third in 2021 and 2022 and fourth among all the institutes of India in 2023.

BollywoodWallah team talked to IIT Bombay student Dhananjay Agnihotri regarding this. Dhananjay points out that global economic uncertainties and the slowdown in recruitment are impacting recent graduates, even those from prestigious institutions. Many children apply for jobs externally.

It is expected that placement of many children will be done by May. Because, at this time more companies take part in campus placements. Talking about the median package, one gets Rs 26 to 27 lakhs annually while the highest package goes into crores. To participate in placement, students have to register separately.

When BollywoodWallah correspondent spoke to Falguni Naha, PRO spokesperson of IIT Bombay, the PRO spokesperson said that this year’s placement drive is still going on. We will share the final data once this year’s placements are completed. 36% is incomplete information. Let us tell you that the placement will continue till May.

Exit survey of 2022-23 shared by IIT Bombay

Following reports that 36% of IIT Bombay students failed in placements, the institute has shared data from an exit survey conducted among undergraduate students in 2022-23 on social media platform X. This shows that 57.1% students got campus placement while 10.3% got external placement. 12.2% continued studies for higher degrees. 8.3% chose public service. There were 4.3% who had not yet decided what they should do next. There were 1.6% who chose startups and the remaining 6.1% are still looking for jobs.

“Unemployment in India was primarily a problem among youth, especially those with secondary education or above, and has increased over time, with youth unemployment rates in India now higher than the global level,” the ILO said.

The report also shows that the share of women among educated unemployed youth is 76.7%, while the number of men is 62.2%. Unemployment is higher in urban areas as compared to rural areas. The ILO said that the female labor force participation rate in India is one of the lowest in the world, at about 25%.
