The institute will also tie up with Tata Steel and Associated Plasmatron Private Limited for this. The Center of Excellence includes National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, IIT-ISM Dhanbad and CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Durgapur as academic partners.

First Center of Excellence established in Eastern India

IIT Patna will have the first Center of Excellence set up in Eastern India in the field of ‘Wear and Corrosion Resistant Coatings Technology’. The MoU was signed by Prof. TN Singh, Director, IIT Patna and Dr. Suraj Rangarajan, MD & CTO, Applied Materials India.

Center of Excellence will be established

IIT Director Prof TN Singh said that IIT Patna will be a part of future road map in technology like Semi Conductor. This center will lead Eastern India in providing the necessary technology for the construction of the nation’s projects. Dr. Suraj Rangarajan said that this agreement will spur innovation and help in making a global impact. Here industrial problems can be directly solved with research innovation. Along with this, Center of Excellence in Wear and Corrosion Resistant Coatings Technology will be established in IIT Patna with the help of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

Training will be given for skill development, startup, search for new ideas

Principal Investigator of the Center of Excellence cum Associate Dean of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Dr. Anoop Kumar Kesari said that this center will identify and investigate various problems of the industry in the field of ‘Wear and Corrosion’ and provide practical solutions. The objective of the MoU will be to provide training and education for primary skill development, startups, innovation of new ideas, bridging the gap between industry and academia.
