When you climb the mountain, there will come a time when you will feel that the sky and the earth are meeting. This scene is quite thrilling. Parasnath mountain of Jharkhand is famous all over the world. The reasons for this are – Jain religion followers. Actually, Parasnath mountain is a famous pilgrimage site for Jain followers. Every year lakhs of devotees from India and abroad come here. The temple built on the peak of Parasnath is considered to be the oldest temple of Jain people in the world. The date engraved on the stones here is 1785 AD. Parasnath is the only place in the world where 20 Tirthankaras attained salvation. It is described in the scriptures of Jainism that out of the 24 Tirthankaras of Jainism, the first Tirthankara Lord Adinath i.e. Lord Rishabhdev lived on Mount Kailash, the 12th Tirthankara Lord Vasupujya lived in Champapuri, the 22nd Tirthankara Lord Neminath lived on Mount Girnar and the 24th Tirthankara and the last Tirthankara Lord Mahavir attained salvation in Pawapuri located in Bihar. All the other 20 Tirthankaras have attained salvation on the land of Parasnath only. There is a group of temples here related to the same 20 Tirthankaras. Since, Parasnath is a holy place for the people of Jainism. Therefore, there is a ban on consumption of meat and alcohol. This is the reason why Parasnath could not be made a tourist destination. Jharkhand The government had tried to make it a tourist destination. There were protests across the country regarding this. The demonstration was so big that the Supreme Court had to withdraw its decision and the court refused to make Parasnath a tourist destination. People of Jain community said that if it is made a tourist destination then hotels and parks will also be built here. People will not only come for darshan but will also come for holidays and picnics. After which there will be free rein for consumption of meat, liquor etc. It will become a hub of fun for the youth. Therefore Jainism will not allow this at this holy place.
