The land at the Central Sarna site at Siromatoli was being encroached upon by a person and he was not ready to leave that land. The local people of Siromatoli sought help from late Karthik Oraon and former minister Karamchand Bhagat to save the land. Then Kartik Oraon and Karamchand Bhagat and others reached there in a procession. The land was freed from encroachment and puja was performed there. After this, the trend of taking out procession at Sarhul started. In the beginning, the crowd in the procession was less and more people used to participate in it with drums, drums etc. Gradually the number of Sarna committees participating in the procession increased.

Dr. Ramdayal Munda’s commendable contribution

The popularity of the Shobha Yatra increased further after the arrival of Dr. Ramdayal Munda in the 1980s. Dr. Hari Oraon, President of Sarna Youth Association, says that earlier the tribal community used to hesitate in performing their songs and dances. People coming from other states also looked at it with contempt. But when late Dr. Ramdayal Munda returned from America, he removed this hesitation. When he used to come down in the procession of Sarhul with a scarf around his neck, it was a sight worth seeing. He instilled a sense of pride among the people about their culture. It got further expansion due to organizations like Sarna Youth Association.

Changes in procession over time

The Sarhul procession has undergone many changes since its inception. From 2007-08 onwards, the use of things like DJ, sound system, lights started increasing in the procession of Sarhul. After which the Sarna committees had to appeal to participate in the procession only with their traditional musical instruments and clothes. DJ lights, sound etc. are still being used, but at the same time the use of tribal costumes, musical instruments and songs has also increased. Another change was that tableaux started appearing in the Sarhul procession.

This time a new thing happened in Sarhul that the Central Sarna Committee (Ajay Tirkey) announced a prize of Rs 1 lakh for the best Sarhul procession, Rs 50 thousand for the second place and Rs 25 thousand for the third place procession. Is. The Sarhul procession is not just a display of a tribal festival. It is also the vehicle of bringing cultural change in Jharkhandi society.

People danced to the beats of Maander in Marwari College.

Ranchi. Sarhul eve program cum lecture was organized at Marwari College on Tuesday. In this, traditional Sarhul dance was presented by the students of Tribal and Regional Languages ​​Department. The students presented Kudukh Sarhul dance, Nagpuri Sarhul dance and Mundari Sarhul dance to showcase the values ​​of collectivity, love and brotherhood. TRL Department Head Prof Mahamani Kumari, Professor Incharge Dr RR Sharma, Dr AN Shahdev, Dr Avadh Bihari Mahato and Dr Ashok Kumar Mahato and others were present on the occasion.

Procession on 11th

Nature festival Sarhul will start from Wednesday (April 10). Wednesday is fasting day. People participating in the puja and all those wearing Mauza will fast. Pahan will catch crab and fish in the morning. Jalrakhai puja will be held at Sarna places in the evening. Chickens will also be sacrificed. Under this, water will be kept in the new pitcher systematically. After a day, Pahan will predict rain by looking at the water in the pitcher. Puja will be held in all the places of worship on 11th April. The Governor has been invited to the puja to be held in the Faculty of Tribal and Regional Languages ​​of Ranchi University. After the puja, a procession will be taken out. All the processions will go to the Central Sarna Sthal in Siromatoli and return to their respective Mauzas. Phoolkhonsi will be organized on 12th April.

Preparations for Sarhul eve ceremony completed:

Sarhul eve ceremony will be organized on 10th April at Deekshant Mandap in Morabadi. Its preparations have been completed. Solo songs and group dance will be organized in this event to be held under the aegis of Sarna Youth Association.
