Even after the declaration of the results of the panchayat elections in West Bengal, central forces will remain deployed in the state. The Calcutta High Court has given this order to prevent post-poll violence. According to the court’s order, central forces should be kept in Bengal for 10 days after the declaration of results to ensure the safety of the elected representatives and common people.

High court ordered to stop the violence

The Calcutta High Court had entrusted the investigation of the violence after the 2021 assembly elections to the CBI. Significantly, before the Panchayat elections, the opposition has again thrown light on the incident of violence. The petition was also filed in a contempt of court case filed by Leader of the Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari. Shubhendu’s lawyer Gurukrishna Kumar had requested that the army be deployed in the state for at least two weeks after the results to prevent post-poll violence. The court ordered that central forces will remain deployed in Bengal for the next 10 days after the results of the panchayat elections are out. Basically, the court said that this order is being given for the safety of the voters and the people as a whole.

Instructions given to keep ballot boxes safe

The results of the Panchayat elections will start coming on July 11. But it is believed that this process may take 12 days to complete. The court said that after July 12, the army should be deployed for the next 10 days. Apart from this, the Calcutta High Court has ordered that the ballot boxes used for Panchayat polling should also be kept safe.

The commission submitted the plan for deployment of central forces to the Center

On this day, the counsel for the central government told the court that the commission has submitted the overall plan of how much central force will be deployed to the central government by 9 pm on July 4. The Union Home Ministry approved it on 5 July. After this the central forces started moving towards the state. The forces are slowly reaching the state. However, the counsel for the Center indicated that there could be a problem with the arrival of central forces ahead of the July 8 panchayat elections.
