This helpline number can be used to listen to complaints related to dowry death or its spread, dowry harassment, sexual exploitation, humiliation of women etc.
Apart from this, complaints can be lodged on this helpline number regarding child marriage, atrocities on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, bonded labour, obstruction to constitutional rights in public and private sector. The Commission can also take suo motu cognizance of any incident of human rights violation on the basis of media reports.
Complaints cannot be made about cases pending in court
The Commission generally does not consider the incident of human rights violation which is more than one year old. That’s why a complaint should be lodged as soon as possible after the incident has happened. No complaint can be made in the Human Rights Commission, which is already under consideration in any court or State Human Rights Commission.
The commission does not take action on any such complaint which is sent vaguely and anonymously. Job related matters are not heard here. However, cases related to denial of pension, family pension, retirement and wages are heard.
