Heart attack cases increased during winter in Bihar, about 500 patients admitted in Patna hospitals, know the preventive measures.

Bihar Weather Impact: The severity of cold has increased in Bihar these days. Many people like winter season. People enjoy this season immensely. But, it is not necessary that your heart also finds this weather pleasant. The risk of deteriorating heart health increases significantly during the winter season. This also includes heart attack and hypertension. In the last 24 days i.e. from January 1 to January 24, 478 patients have been admitted for heart attack in Patna’s Indira Gandhi Heart Disease Institute, PMCH and IGIMS.

About 500 patients admitted in hospitals.

All the patients admitted in the hospitals of Patna have been referred from different districts of the state. Of these, the maximum number of patients have been admitted – 204 in Heart Disease Institute, 127 in PMCH and 147 in IGIMS. Every day 20 to 25 heart attack patients are reaching these three hospitals. Whereas before this the maximum number was between 10 to 12. In these three hospitals together, there have been 16 cases of brain dead i.e. already dead people. These include patients due to various reasons like brain haemorrhage, road accident etc.

Advice from the Chairman of the Cardiology Department of IGIMS..

Dr. Ravi Vishnu, Chairman of IGIMS Cardiology Department, said that the number of heart attack patients has doubled due to cold. These days the wards are completely full. He said that due to blood clotting the risk of heart attack and brain stroke increases. The risk of heart attack is highest from 1 in the night to 5 in the morning. It is important to drink adequate amount of water.

Dr. Amitabh Kumar of IGIC says that do not ignore fast heartbeat, sudden increase or decrease in BP, pain in the jaw, sudden severe pain in the left arm or chest and waist. If symptoms like nervousness, difficulty in breathing appear, then get checked by a doctor.

Dr. Amitabh told that if you want to avoid heart attack, then drink lukewarm water in the morning and night. Also, do not wake up suddenly in the morning, walk for some time before running in the morning. Before exercising in the gym, warm up for some time. Maintain temperature balance.

  • Keep doors and windows properly closed to prevent cold air from entering the house.

  • Stay indoors as much as possible and travel less to prevent exposure to cold wind, rain, snow.

  • Instead of wearing one layer of clothing, wear light layers of loose fitting clothing, windproof/cotton outer shell and warm woolen inner clothing.

  • Use fingerless gloves.

  • To maintain adequate immunity, eat fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C.

  • Drink warm liquids regularly, this will maintain body heat to fight cold.

  • Make arrangements for adequate ventilation while using the room heater.
