Gujarat ATS Gets Custody Of Lawrence Bishnoi: Gujarat’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has got the custody of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with a case of cross border drug trafficking. An officer gave information about this. A Delhi court had granted transit remand of Bishnoi, who was lodged in Tihar Jail, to the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad. The ATS wants to question the gangster about his role in the seizure of 40 kg of heroin, worth over Rs 200 crore, from a Pakistani fishing boat in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast in September last year.

Will be produced in Kutch district court

Talking on the matter, a senior ATS officer said that- We got the custody of Bishnoi and our teams are reaching Gujarat. He will be produced in a court in Kutch district by this evening. On September 14 last year, the Gujarat ATS in a joint operation with the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a Pakistani fishing boat at sea near Jakhau port in Kutch district and recovered 40 kg of heroin worth over Rs 200 crore. .

6 citizens were arrested

Explaining further, the senior officer said that- 6 citizens of Pakistan who were traveling in a boat named Al Tayyasa were arrested at that time. After this, it was revealed in the investigation that the heroin was to be brought to northern states like Delhi and Punjab by road with the help of two residents of Delhi, Sartaj Malik and Jaggi Singh alias Virpal Singh. Later both were arrested.

Drugs were being smuggled by the gang

The Gujarat police also said that the drugs were being smuggled by a gang of two smugglers, including a Nigerian national. Both these smugglers are lodged in jails in Punjab. During interrogation of 8 accused, it was found that drug smugglers Meeraj Rahmani and Ani Chief Obinna alias Chief (Nigerian nationals) were running the gang while sitting in jail. Rahmani is lodged in Kapurthala jail and Obinna in Amritsar jail. It is alleged that both were working for Bishnoi.

Gangs were operating using WhatsApp and VOIP calls

Police had earlier told that they were running the gang using WhatsApp and VOIP (internet phone) calls. The Gujarat Police also came to know about the role of Bharat Bhushan alias Bhola Shankar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who was smuggling drugs from a jail in Punjab, in the 2021 Morbi drugs seizure case. Bhushan recently died in jail.
