Google vs CCI: Google has got a big blow. The search engine could not get relief even from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLAT). NCLAT has upheld the decision of CCI on Google. After this setback, Google will have to pay a fine of Rs 1337.76 crore within 30 days. The Competition Commission of India i.e. CCI had imposed this fine on the internet company.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has upheld the decision of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the case of Google. The commission had imposed a penalty of Rs 1,337.76 crore on technology company Google for indulging in anti-competitive activities in the case of Android mobile devices. A two-member bench of the Appellate Tribunal has asked Google to comply with the directions and deposit the fine within 30 days.

A bench of NCLAT Chairperson Justice Ashok Bhushan and member Alok Srivastava has also made some amendments in the order of the Competition Commission. The Appellate Tribunal rejected Google’s appeal that the Competition Commission had violated natural justice in the investigation.

It is noteworthy that on October 20 last year, CCI had imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.6 crore on Google for indulging in anti-competitive activities in the case of Android mobile devices. The regulator also asked the company to desist and desist from various unfair trade practices. This order of the Competition Commission was challenged in the Appellate Tribunal.
