Ghaziabad: Made deepfake video of retired IPS using AI, then extorted so much money by threatening the old man

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, cyber criminals have started targeting common people. But the country’s first shocking case has come to light in Ghaziabad. Here cyber criminals made a video using the voice and face of a retired IPS officer for extortion. Then with the help of video the criminals committed the crime of cheating an elderly person. Police said on Wednesday that after the matter came to their notice, a case was immediately registered. 74-year-old Arvind Sharma, resident of Govindpuram in Kavinagar police station area, who works as a clerk, recently bought his first mobile phone and created a Facebook account. On November 4, fraudsters contacted him through video call on Facebook. On picking up the phone, a woman appeared on the other side. He immediately disconnected the phone. An hour later, Sharma received a second video call on WhatsApp. This time a person in uniform was threatening him. Monica, the daughter of the victim, said in the complaint that the man, seen in police uniform, threatened to file a case against her father if he did not pay the money. He also warned that the video of his father talking to women would go viral on social media. The frightened old man repeatedly paid money to the fraudsters to save the hem from stains.

To meet the demands of the fraudsters, the father also took a loan from the company. The daughter told that the father, fed up with the extortion of cyber criminals, started thinking of suicide. After paying Rs 74 thousand, the father’s patience ran out. Eventually Sharma told the family about the incident. The family members searched on Google to trace the IPS officer. It was revealed that the person in the video was former ADG Prem Prakash. The family members could not believe the threats and extortion by the senior UP Police officer. He informed the police about the matter. Kavinagar ACP Abhishek Srivastava said that after receiving the complaint, the senior citizen was contacted on Tuesday. The help of cyber cell is being taken to expose the case.
