Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 was released in theaters a month ago, and became one of the most successful films of the year. The film received a lot of love from the audience as well as critics.
The box office collection of Anil Sharma’s film saw a significant decline after the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan. However, it still maintains its hold in movie theaters.
According to industry tracker Saknilak, Gadar 2 started its journey at the box office with Rs 40.1 crore on the opening day. And earned Rs 55.4 crore on Independence Day.
Now, on its 41st day in theatres, Gadar 2 has earned Rs 35 lakh, taking its total collection to Rs 521.15 crore, making it the second highest grossing film of the year.
After this there is Shahrukh Khan-starrer Pathan. Shah Rukh Khan’s film earned Rs 543.05 crore during its run when it released in January.
Gadar 2 was on its way to break Pathan’s record, but then it was attacked by a soldier, due to which the collection of the movie slowed down. Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel’s film still needs more than Rs 21 crore to reach the top position, which seems quite difficult at this time.
The current domestic collection of Jawan is Rs 468 crore (Hindi) and Rs 518.28 crore in all languages. The film is now entering its third week at the box office. It is only behind Jawan Gadar 2 by Rs 2.87 crore.
Set in Lahore during the year 1971, ‘Gadar 2’ perfectly replicates the captivating action sequences of its prequel while depicting Tara Singh’s constant anger towards those who incite hatred between India and Pakistan.
It is the sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, a 2001 film based on the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947. The film is said to be based on Buta Singh, a former British Army soldier.
