G20 Leaders Summit India: India proposed a G20 satellite mission for environment and climate observations aimed at helping countries in the Global South. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this suggestion in the presence of global leaders including US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the G20 Leaders’ Summit at the international conference center ‘Bharat Mandapam’ here.

PM Modi said that the G20 satellite mission will prove beneficial for the entire humanity like the data obtained from India’s successful Chandrayaan mission. He said that in the same spirit, India is proposing to launch a ‘G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observations’.

In a session of the ‘G20 Leaders Summit’, Modi said, the climate and weather related data obtained from this will be shared with all the countries, especially the countries of the Global South. India invites all G-20 countries to join this initiative.

The term ‘Global South’ is often used to refer to developing and least developed countries, located primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America. G20 leaders also congratulated India for the successful landing on the Moon on August 23.
