Forest Department took major action against illegal timber smuggling in Palamu, criminals absconded leaving goods

Palamu, Saikat Chatterjee. Forest department has taken major action against wood smugglers in Palamu district. In Patan and Panki of the district, on Tuesday evening, the Forest Department, while taking action against the wood smugglers, also seized wooden pots. Due to this sudden departmental action, there is a stir among the wood smugglers.

Action taken on the basis of secret information

In this regard, Divisional Forest Officer of Palamu, Soumitra Shukla told that he had received secret information regarding the transportation of illegal Khair wood in Patan and Panki. Based on this the information was scrutinised. Planning was done to take action on confirmation of the information being confirmed.

Two different parties took action together

After thorough planning, action was taken against the smugglers by forming two separate teams under the leadership of Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, Forest Officer of Kundari Forest Range. Due to the different actions taken together, the wood smugglers could not control themselves and ran away.

Plan to smuggle 35 tonnes of khair wood foiled

The DFO told that in Bhudwa-Nawadih village of Patan police station area, at 11 pm on April 3, wood smugglers were preparing to transport 35 tonnes of illegal khair wood by hiding it. During this, the Forest Department team reached there, but the criminals also got an inkling of it, as soon as they got the inkling, they left the wood and escaped from their vehicle taking advantage of the darkness. Several lots of spilled illegal khair were recovered from the spot.

Illegal Khair peel was also found from Sanjay Paswan’s house

In the course of the investigation, peeled Khair peel was also recovered from the house of accused Sanjay Paswan. All the wood and peels were seized and brought to the Patan Forest Range Office. During this, Patan police station in-charge Gulshan Gaurav and foresters and forest guards of the forest department were present in the entire operation.

Second action taken in Panki

After the success of the first action, the second action was taken by the department at Harlong in Panki. Here, at 3 am on April 4, 78 pieces of illegal wooden trunks were recovered under the leadership of Forest Officer Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary of Kundri Forest Area. Panki police station in-charge Ranjit Kumar and other officers and personnel of the forest department were present on the occasion.
