FIR against former cricketer Joginder Sharma, hero of T20 World Cup 2007, accused of abetting suicide

On January 1, 27-year-old Pawan, resident of Dabra village, committed suicide by hanging himself over a property dispute. The family has demanded registration of a case under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and immediate arrest of the accused. Pawan’s mother Sunita has filed a case against a total of 6 people including Joginder. FIR has been registered against all the accused under section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide).

According to Sunita, the accused had been harassing her family for many years.

Joginder Sharma is a former Indian cricketer. He played an important role in India’s victory in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. He bowled the last over in the final match against Pakistan and took one wicket, due to which India could win that match. Sharma made his debut in 2004. Since then till 2007, he has played four ODIs and four T20s. He has also played IPL for MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.
