FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier 2024: Germany won gold medal, America won silver

Germany, living up to its reputation, won the FIH Women’s Olympic Qualifier by defeating America 2-0 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Friday. By reaching the finals, he had already secured his place in the Paris Olympics. Germany scored both its goals in the first half. He maintained constant pressure on America and got four penalty corners in the first quarter itself, but he could not convert any of them into goals.

Zimmerman doubled Germany’s lead by converting a penalty corner in the 20th minute. Two minutes later, Germany got two more penalty corners but could not score on them. He won his tenth penalty corner in the 26th minute. The American team gained some momentum in the third and fourth quarters but failed to penetrate Germany’s strong defense.

Japan broke India’s dream

The Indian women’s hockey team missed qualifying for the Paris Olympics after losing 0-1 to Japan in the third place match in the qualifiers. Kana Urata scored a penalty corner goal in the sixth minute for Japan, which proved to be decisive. Japan put pressure on the Indian defense by playing aggressively from the beginning. In this sequence, she got her first chance to score a goal in the very second minute, but Indian captain Savita promptly moved the ball away.
