Director Siddharth Anand’s last released films War and Pathan were superhits. At the same time, Fighter was not successful in creating a stir at the box office. Siddharth has reacted to this.
Siddharth spoke to Galata Plus about the various reasons behind Fighter’s disappointing performance at the box office. He said, “We have to keep our expectations under control and align them with the product. Besides, it was released on January 25, a working day.”
Siddharth said, Thursday is considered the middle of the week. For example, we held a special screening for friends and family on Thursday.
He further said, whoever was messaged and asked, at least 40% of them asked, ‘Is the show in the evening?’ So at that time it impressed us how people would come in the morning after bunking from work or bunking from school.
While making his point, Siddharth also said that the concept of Fighter is different for a large section of the audience in India. There is no reference point for the audience. Let us tell you that the movie was released in theaters on 25 January.
There is a decline in the earnings of Fighter since the second day of its release. Fighter had earned Rs 22.5 crore on the opening day. Whereas on the eighth day the movie collected Rs 5.75 crores. The total earning till now has reached Rs 146.25 crore.
Talking about the OTT release of Fighter, Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights of Fighter. It is being said that the film will be released on Netflix in the last week of March, just before the Holi festival. But the official announcement is yet to be made.
At the same time, Fighter has earned Rs 69 crores worldwide so far and has collected Rs 229.8 crores. It will take some time to reach the Rs 300 crore club.
At the same time, Siddharth’s movie Pathan, released on January 25 last year, had crossed the figure of Rs 330 crore in the domestic market on the seventh day. The collection in India was Rs 657.5 crore. At present the fighter seems far away from the target.
